Exploring Ballroom Dance Steps While Passing Clubs
I've been taking ballroom dance lessons for a year and a half now. As a juggler and club passer, I guess it's only natural that I'd want to combine the two, in some way. After all, doing the box step is very much the same timing as doing a three-count passing pattern, etc. So this class, will be just what the title says, experimentations. After working on paying attention to the timing of our juggling, and timing to music, we will incorporate the dance steps. I will go over the basic dance steps that we will be connecting with our club passing.

Basic Club Tricks
Once your basic cascade pattern starts to settle down, it is time to add a few tricks to your repertoire. Each trick is broken down into easy to practice segments.  You will learn the basics and timing of each trick with one club, and how to add the new movement to your juggling pattern.  I will demonstrate each trick, and then walk around the group fixing individual problems.  These tricks are building blocks for more complicated tricks that you'll eventually want to learn.  The tricks presented will include under the leg, over the top, behind the back, various doubles, flourishes, under the arm, and thumb rolls.

Well, IJA is returning to El Paso for next year's festival in 2020, and you can learn all about the great new improvements and additions to the downtown since our last visit. 3 club shoulder rolls (first popularized by Lauge Benjaminsen and others in the early 2010s era) is a trick with 3 clubs where the club is thrown/pushed onto the shoulder and then bounced off of the juggler's upper back and smoothly back into the 3 club pattern. Chops with clubs
Chops is a fascinating pattern to watch, and can be infuriating to learn.  It is really hard to see how it is done just by watching, unless you already know how. Lots of otherwise good jugglers just grab clubs out of the air and call that chops. The essential movement to know is under the arm column throws.  That is covered in the Basic Club Tricks workshop. Chops is an evolution of that basic trick with some very precise timing that is quite easy to learn.  You will learn each segment of chops, and how to put it all together in a perfectly controlled pattern.  It really can be easier than it looks.

Then, they will have a few minutes to teach it to everyone, and receive even more ideas on how to expand it.

The tricks should be interesting and unique, and at any difficulty level. Although presenting something isn't required, it will improve everyone else's experience. The workshop is marked as difficult, because participants will learn and expand on a new 3 ball trick in just a few minutes. You are welcome to show up just to learn and not participate.

Why You Need to Be at IJA 2020 in El Paso
Were you one of the folks who took a pass on IJA in 2016, and missed an awesome week in El Paso, Texas? Maybe you've heard your friends talking about how great El Paso was for our festival destination, how amazing all the venues were, and what a safe, fun and comfortable time they had downtown during the week.

Well, IJA is returning to El Paso for next year's festival in 2020, and you can learn all about the great new improvements and additions to the downtown since our last visit. IJA Festival Site Coordinator Mike Sullivan will be showing-and-telling all about El Paso, the beautiful facilities we will be using, and more reasons why you should make plans NOW to be there then!

New Board Member Basics
I'll go over the basic responsibilities of being on a non-profit Board, what it means to have a 'fiduciary duty', and what you should expect from your fellow Board members.  It is important to understand who is doing what, and what needs to be done, and when.  Sometimes people have to cut back or drop out so it is important to communicate well and frequently to avoid unexpected disruptions.
